Outlook 2000

When I attempt any action in outlook, open contacts, open an e-mail etc. the
program hangs & I receive the following: "This program not responding. To
return to Windows & check the status of the program click cancel. If you
choose to end the program immediately, you will lose any unsaved data. To end
program, click End Now." If I cancel the program remains locked. I would
REALLY appreciate knowing how to correct this problem. Thanks
