Outlook 2002 Form Problems

Dave

I have created a public folder on our Exchange 5.5 Server to store a custom
form, created using Outlook 2000. I have created a number of items in the
Public Folder using an Outlook 2000 client. When I access these items using
Outlook 2002, the custom form that was used to create the item does not
display. I first encountered a problem displaying the form in the preview
pane, which I resolved by installed Office XP Service Pack 3, and adding a
registry key for the form.

If I create a new item in the public folder using Outlook 2002, the custom
form is used when I create the item, but after it saves to the public folder
it loses it's custom form properties. The type of form is an alteration of
the IPM.Post Form. Has anyone had similar problems using Outlook 2002?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Sue,

Thanks for the quick response, and the tip about the other group. After the
item is saved the message class field still shows as IPM.Post.MyForm. I
have seen the similar result as I described in my original post, when using
Outlook 2000, however I would receive a prompt indicating that the form
could not be properly installed a default form will be used. It seems that
the result is the same with 2002, it cannot install the custom form, yet it
uses a default form (is that a normal behaviour? that if a child form cannot
be accessed it will look to the parent form to display it?).

Another piece of information that I am not sure of is that I have only
published the form to the Public Folder that it is used within, is there a
requirement for 2002 forms to have the form published within the
organizational forms?

Thanks for the help,
Dave

If you are storing items that use the form only in the public folder, then
it's fine to publish them just to that folder.

It probably wouldn't hurt to clear the forms cache. Are you the only person
encountering this problem?

I cleared the forms cache and still the same problem. I'm currently in the
process of testing my form with Outlook 2002, as one of the users has
Outlook 2002, for the tablet PC enabled features. I'm testing Outlook 2002
within a virtual machine to simulate the tablet users environment,
unfortunately I do not have another environment with 2002.

After some testing it appears that Outlook 2002 will handle forms
differently if they contain NO code. Does anyone have an explaination? I
believe the following MS Knowledge base article applies to my situation:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=318119

I did not apply the Hotfix as mentioned above, however I did perform the
steps under 'More Information'. The result being, that the custom form I
created was not displayed, I did not receive the message indicating active
content was found in the mail message, but the message did display using
only the IPM.Post message class.

Has anyone applied the patch mentioned in the Knowledge base article, and
does it not only remove the active content message, but display the custom
form that contains no code?

Try using Outlook 2002 to republish the form to the public folder,
incrementing its version number first.
