Outlook 2002 Hangs

I am running Office XP and each time I attempt to open an
email in Outlook 2002 that has an attachment the program
(Outlook) hangs.
I have run the repair and it still does the same thing. I
have uninstalled Outlook rebooted my system and
reinstalled Outlook. After I do that I can open email
with attachments but only once. If I attempt to open a
second or reopen the first one it hangs again.

If you are in a corporate environment here is an article from

I had the same problem and it seemed to happen on Outlook 2000,2002
with our end users. They have a 1 MG link to the Exchange server.
Finally, I was able to create a profile on a fresh computer that
actually opens the email without waiting to download the attachment.

The cause, we use a client Anti-Viurs software that scans all
attachments in real-time, so everytime you highlight an attachment the
AV software scans it first. (my fresh computer did not have the AV
software installed) Since we have a AV scanner at the server level,
we disabled it at the client level. This did the job.
