Outlook 2002 hangs

This is totally new behaviour today. Has always been very stable up to now.

System: Outlook 2002, WinXP/HE SP2, IE6, ActiveSync 3.7.1, HP iPAQ 2210,
Pocket PC 2003.

Ran Outlook on my PC today. Hung / froze on loading dataset. I rebooted the
computer. Then repaired installation - all no good. Renamed Outlook backup
file to load it instead of usual one - no good. Used System Restore to go
before malicious removal tool update of today - again no good.

Then put iPAQ in cradle and ran Outlook on my PC - works BUT as soon as my
iPAQ is disconnected it hangs. Outlook on iPAQ seemingly not affected.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you created a new mail profile?

No. Actually, I use Outlook as a contacts database and diary but not for
email - I use Pegasus for that instead (only because I always have, since I
started using email in 1994, have 20,000 odd emails stored and could never
face transferring everything!).

Thanks for getting back. Why should it be ok when synched? It seems to
work absolutely normally when I dock my iPAQ.

Perhaps I should have said "Outlook profile", then. Outlook uses a profile
to keep track of all the services that are configured, not just the mail
services.

It's hard to say why. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons, with your exact
condition being one of them. However, starting with a new mail profile can
cure a lot of Outlook issues. Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles>Add.

I remembered some automatic updating by 'You Software' add-ins the day before
yesterday, I was asked 2 or 3 times to agree installation of an auto update.
Maybe it botched the update process? The culprit was a com add-in,
'Cloudmark'. I disabled it and Outlook loaded. I've now uninstalled that
piece of software as I don't want to forgetfully re-enable it some months
down the line.

Thanks for your help.
