Outlook 2003 and Onenote 2007 beta - missing Onenote icon in outlook

Morc

I have been using Onenote 2007 with Outlook 2003 for the past few
weeks. Everything was working well.

I installed the desktop search functionality as Onenote recommended
with no problems.

One day I started Outlook 2003 after succesfully running for a few
weeks and Outlook issued an error about the Onenote extension causing
problems and did I want to disable it. I was'nt really paying
attention and said yes - after all most outlook extensions that fail
can be reactivated again.

Not so for Onenote 2007 .... The Send to Onenote Icon that was on
the toolbar in Outlook 2003 (and was working) has disappeared. I have
not been able to track down a solution to get it back. Its not an
option to add back on the tool bar, its not part of OCM add-ins in
outlook.

I have tried uninstalling Onenote and re-installing which did'nt work.
I have seen a few posts that refer to the WDS v3 and seem to
recommend uninstalling that as well which I have yet to try.

Has anyone else run into this ?

Actually, I had the same issue. Since I am not so much into the OutLook
integration I didn't mind letting it turn off the buttons. In the same
dialog it said how to get them back but I didn't read it closely or write
down how to do it. I poked around a little and couldn't figure out how to
get them back either. So I have the exact same issue as you. I just don't
care as much.

OneNote 2007 and Outlook 2003 are not compatible in Beta 2.

Can I dare making the move from OL 2003 to the 2007 beta version?
Does it work reliably already?

It works reliably (once you disable AVG and Adobe Acrobat's Pro 6/7
Outlook integration). However, you might experience some serious
performance issues, especially if your PST is >500 MB or even in the GB
range.
It also a range of other issues (some minor, some bigger). Overall, I'd
say that OneNote is probably more stable and of better performance than
Outlook, but Outlook is also a much more complex product than OneNote.
Keep in mind that you cannot have two versions of Outlook on your
computer, so it is really a move.
Also, I'd suggest that you make a new profile in Outlook 2007 (Control
Panel, Mail) instead of working with your upgraded 2003 profile.
Upgraded profiles can always introduce issues (and this applies to any
upgrade of Outlook).
It's your call, but don't come screaming when stuff doesn't work after
you installed the beta ;) (if you have issues with the beta, post in the
Outlook newsgroup and you'll get help there).

Thanks for your in detail reply, Patrick

OK. I'm not using AVG and hopefully Norton AV won't cause too many
problems.
For Word the integration of Acrobat is crucial. But it's not needed in
Outlook.

Gladly ways below. Some 25MB at present and I hope it won't grow too
much.
I'm just using it for the Calendar, Contacts and to a rather small
extent for tasks. Would prefer to do the latter in ON.
And mail is handled with IMAP and OE.

Thanks for this warning.

LOL

I'll think about it.
And backup the system carefully ;-)

Thanks again

In Outlook 2003, from the menu choose Help, About Microsoft Office Outlook,
then click on the Disabled Items button. You can re-enable the OneNote
plug-in. After restarting Outlook you should see the send to OneNote button.

Note that I see the plugin cause Outlook to crash often, so this button is
often missing.

Jared
