Outlook 2003 export question

I want to export a number of email messages from Outlook 2003 to a simple
text file. I have done this before but it is no longer working. If I select
the multiple messages and then click on "save as" from the File menu, only
the message headers are saved in the text file. I also tried the export
feature but none of the choices will allow me to save as a simple text file.
