Outlook 2003 Freezes and stops other apps

Hi,

have Outlook 2003 which is a student version running on Windows 2K. Out of
nowhere, my Outlook stopped working. When I open it, the mail downloads very
very slowly, then pauses, then stops/freezes and I can't use any other open
programs. CUs go crazy, from low to high and lo to high...and I get a message
telling me to send a report to Microsoft. After that, I'm sent to a MS page
with suggestions on how to fix the problem.

None of the fixes have worked: 1. Download SP 2 (when I try, it downloads
but fails to install). 2. Download the fullfile (same thing happens). 3.
Download less files (single files won't install, either). 4. Delete temp
files, cookies, etc etc
5. Turn off virus and firewall 6. I searched the web and tried a bunch of
other fixes that I can't even remember now.

I eventually re-installed Office using the fix/repair option but that didn't
help. I tried installing SP 1 (?) and that didn't work. It downloaded but
didn't allow for SP 2. (forgive me if I have these versions wrong).

I've spent two days and I give up. What could be the cause?
Note: one of the error messages that pops up when Outlook is trying to work,
is that I'm low on Virtual Memory . Here are some other error messages:

- Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sending error report.
- Installation unsuccessful= update for office KB907417
- Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of
your virtual memory paging file. During this process, memory requests for
some applications may be denied.

When I tried to re-install Office 2003, it prompted me to install 2000 SR-1
Disc 2. I think the problem with that is that my original Office was
Professional Business, and my Office 2003 is a student version; I dunno.
Anyway, it wouldn't install.

Anyone able to help me out of this mess?

Thanks a million-
Terry
