Outlook 2003 gets not connected error but status is connected

The problem seems to be that I'm using my PC, responding to e-mails,
and I then book a meeting. When trying to send the meeting booking I
receive the message as "Outlook must be connected to the server in
order to book a resource for a meeting. You should save the meeting
request and send it when you connect to the server" which indicates
that Outlook is offline. When I check that bottom right hand corner
status bar in Outlook it says it's connected, and if I go the network
share drive on the network I see all my files, but until I select
Connect to Exchange on the outlook toolbar ( bottom right ) I remain
disconnected for e-mail. I've never had this problem before ( or never
been aware of it as I don't tend to book a lot of meetings and the
biggest issue seems to be that resources can only be booked when
Outlook is online ).

I had been away from my PC for about an our beforehand so may be some
sort of sleep mode time setting.

Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers
