Outlook 2003 - Hanging up

I just installed Outlook 2003 on a fresh machine (OS = Windows XP Medi
Center). I imported my .pst file and it is a large one (dates back t
Outlook 97, I believe). In two days, I have only successfully ru
Outlook 2003 twice. The majority of the time it hangs up with th
following message in the lower lefthand corner of the screes: "(3 item
remaining) Loading dataset..."

I suspect it has something to do with the large .pst file? I recreate
my mail profile and "compacted" the .pst file, but no luck. I importe
the same .pst file to my laptop (running Outlook 2002) and ha
absolutely ZERO problems.

Any clue? Any suggestions? I am more than a little frustrated at thi
point and anything anyone can suggest is welcomed! Thanks in advance.

With Outlook closed try running the Inbox Repair tool called scanpst.exe on
the pst, I would make a backup first

Try creating a new PST (Outlook 2003's new PST format can handle many
gigabytes of information - theoretically 32,000 gigabytes) and making it
your primary PST. Then, open your old PST and copy the information it
contains to your new PST.
