I can't believe this myself, but I figured I'd post it to see if anyone has
any comments.
While working away from my desk, the contents of my Outlook 2003/ Exchange
Server 2000 mailbox disappeared. When I walked away from my desk, there
were approximately 150 messages in my Inbox. When I returned, there was one
new message received in the last couple of minutes. I was able to retrieve
the messages, which bypassed Deleted Items, by using the procedure in the
article below.
It appears that I'm the only one in the 20-person office who had this
unpleasant experience. I suppose there's an extremely slim chance that
someone hard deleted the messages on me, but I can't imagine it (private
office, someone would have been noticed at my computer). We use eTrust AV
on the server, and it's configured correctly (not scanning M or databases).
Not to mention that the messages survived AV scanning for the year or so
since we installed this version and 23 hours since the previous signature
file update. No errors logged on server or workstation.
If anyone has any idea how this could have happened, I'd love to hear it.
And if it happens to you, here's how you recover the messages:
