Outlook 2003 Major Headache - Massive Duplicate mails!

Hi All,

I'm having a problem with Outlook 2003 and it happens at least a dozen times a

day. It seems that 'broken' mail coming in to my POP mail account somehow
stops Outlook 2003 from working. Not only does the Outlook 2003 client stall

on me, but next time it checks mail, it re-downloads all the mail up to the
'broken' one, so if I leave mail running all night long, frequently I wind up
with 50 copies of 40 or more pieces of mail, right up to the broken one. I
have to sign on to my POP mail account with a web client to 'clear' the bad
mail, then Outlook can proceed.

If it were just a few times a week, i could live with it. But I get 400
pieces of mail a day, find it intolerable that I can't leave Outlook 2003 open

all the time lest it sieze up like this.

Any suggestions?

Are you running MS Exchange or using POP3...and if you are using POP3,
contact the email host and have them delete the corrupted email.

Rick... I'm running POP3 mail. I can delete the corrupted mail using a web
client, but that's not the point. The point is that this happens 10 times a
day or more, and i'm sick of having to use two mail clients. I also can't
leave my mail program running all night long, because if I do, I'll get up in
the morning to find that i've got dozens of duplicates (imagine seeing the
same 25 mails 30 times each!).

I kinow how to kill the bad mail, what I need is to figure out why this keeps
happening, and what I can do about it.

Thanks,
Gene

Do you have your antivirus set to scan incoming and outgoing mail? Try
turning it off and see if it makes a difference.
