Error: !Task 'mymailacct - Sending' reported error (0x80040201): 'Unknown
Error 0x80040201

I get the abover error whenever outlook attempts a Send/Recieve.

I've tried the following, and after each suggested remedy, the problem
persisted:
1. Used scanpst.exe to scan for errors and fix the outlook.pst file
2. Use OutlookSpy as described in
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/delete_rr.htm , but found no pending read
receipt.
3. - Exported outlook.pst to back.pst;
- Closed Outlook & renamed back.pst to outlook.pst
- used Ctrl-panel->mail to delete all accounts
- opened Outlook and created a new account
4. Created an all new data file .pst and used that

Not sure what else I can try. =(

Try a completely new profile (not just a new data file) created via the Mail
icon in Control Panel.

Thanks Bill. I resolved it using a different approach.

First, the error was cropping up due a bad archive.pst file. I think it got
corrupt when I was deleting old emails and compacting the file. So, I used
scanpst.exe to fix it first. But the error was still croppping up.

So, my recommendation to anyone encountering similar problems is:
- Try all the options I first attempted, since they worked to fix similar
issues for others. If all else fails:
close outlook
use control panel -> mail to add a new data file and make that the
default. Then remove all other data files.
use control panel -> mail, note down all settings for all your email accounts and delete them all
Open and close Outlook (why? I'm not sure, gut feeling)
Use scanpst.exe to fix all your .pst files
use control panel -> mail and recreate one email account.
open Outlook and do a send/receive to see if the "sending..." error is gone
If yes, then close outlook, use control panel -> mail to add back the
fixed .pst files

Hopefully, this will help others.

IMPORTANT: Backup your hard disk(s) using Ghost or Acronis before trying to
fix anything. That way, you'll at least be able to get back to where you
started.

i had simular issues with dead reciepts when moving old mails to a ne
.pst file and fixed by going in outlook 2003:
Tools->Options->
Under the preferences tab->Tacking Options
ticked the box "After processing, move reciepts to "Deleted Items"

hope that helps someone :
