Outlook 2003 sending to distribution list

Glenn

When I select a distribution list to send to and click on 'Send', I get the
following error message: An internal support function returned an error.
If I expand the distribution list and click 'Send' it works. Does anyone
know what causes this and how to fix it? Thanks.

Try re-resolving the DL before sending so that it's not resolving from an
old entry in the autocompletion cache.

I am trying to resolve this issue as well and I'm sorry but your explanation
doesn't make sense to me.

Here's what I have done so far:

1. I deleted the distribution list in question.
2. I went through my address book and ensured that there is only one entry
for each person that will be added to the new distribution list.
3. I created the new distribution list - still same error.

I am working on Outlook 2003. We are not using MS Exchange Server (it was
suggested that this issue might have something to do with compatability
between the two...)

Thanks.

In the To field, start to type the DL name. When it appears in the
drop-down, select it using the down-arrow key and press Delete. Now, enter
the DL name again and press CTRL-K.

Thanks Brian. That worked.

Brian... I have the exact same problem but it doesn't work for me, perhaps
because I imported the DLs from Outlook Express. Is there any way I can get
this to work. I have thousands of contacts to put in distribution list and I
already had them imported in Outlook from Outlook Express. Thank you in
advance!

One more question please. Since I have this gut feeling that I am going to
have to recreate my distribution lists in Outlook, is there a way to change
the sort order of my contacts when I'm trying to add members to a newly
created DL? Right now, the sort order is firstname, lastname. I need them
to display lastname, firstname. I have the lastname, firstname sort order
set in tools, options, contacts but this does not seem to roll over when
selecting members for a newly created DL. Hope I make sense!

Outlook Express uses "groups" and they won't import into Outlook as DLs. In
fact, DLs generally don't import, period.

Why do you need DLs? What will they do for you that categories or separate
Contacts folders (both of which are more robust than DLs) won't?

I believe Outlook uses the "Display As" field for the string to add to the
"Name" field in the DL. (At least, it does for me.) Change the "Display
As" field to be what you want and that's what should appear when you add the
contact as a DL member.
