I have a rather strange problem where I get a Restrictions message whe
I try to open a Gif bmp Jpg or Tif directly from Outlook. If I save th
file the file then opens in Windows Picture and Fax viewer with n
problems.

The Run32dll.exe has been allowed and I have no problems if I use a
account that has Admin access.

Does anyone know how to get around this problem.?

Thank

Outlook security settings prevent opening these possible virus files. You can
change by going to Tools, options, Security, Change Auto Download Settings.

What restriction message is that?

I suspect it's a message saying something like "Can't
create file: something.gif. Right click the folder you want to create
the file in, and then click properties on the shortcut menu to check
the permission to the folder." Asked and answered many times. Here's a
link to one of the times the answer has been posted. Google Groups is your

I think you are miss understanding the problem.

I'm talking about opening attachments. Not the ability to view
picture from within the email

The problem I have has nothing to do with Security setting but the wa
the Picture and Fax viewer is invoked on machine that has restriction
(group policy) set.

As mentioned this works fine if you are an Admin user

ANyone have any ideas on this?

I have logged a call with Microsoft and they have not got a clue.
(Passing the call form department to department)

I did notice that Microsoft offered a simular hotfix for 2002
wondered if 2003 has the same bug
