outlook 2003

Under Office XP and below, the user can archive old messages in the
archive.pst created with an earlier version of Outlook.
It appears that this is no longer the case.
I tried to archive old messages to an archive file create with Outlook
97. This worked in Outlook 97, Outlook 2000 and Outlook XP. When I
tried this with Outlook 2003, I got an error message that Outlook 2003
was unable to use the *.pst since it support unicode.

I wonder if I have to convert the archive.pst to an Outlook 2003 file
format.
Since I use the same.pst file for Outlook XP, it will be a long time
before I convert.

Why not just retire the old archive.pst file and start a new one? You could
rename the old one to indicate it was used with Outlook 2002 and earlier,
and then have Outlook 2003 create a new Unicode format archive.pst. You
will still be able to open the old archive file using File | Open in
Outlook.
