I cannot see the text in downloaded emails. the reading pane is a copy of the

One major cause of this is scanning your incoming messages with an antivirus
scanner. If you do that, uninstall your AV program and reinstall it without
the mail scanning feature and test again with new messages (your old messages
won't change). You will be just as safe and the AV program can't interfere.
