I don't believe that's true. OL 97, 98, 2000, 2002, and 2003 all work fine
with Exchange 2000 and I've read reports of people using OL 2000 and 2002
with Exchange 5.5.

FWIW, I run Outlook 2000, 2002 and 2003 against an Exchange 5.5 server
here. Just don't hit the same mailbox with both Outlook 2000 and 2003
and make sure to install the updates for Exchange 5.5 for Outlook 2003
if you intend to run Outlook 2003 with an Exchange 5.5 server.
