Outlook 2007 NO sound notification with Hotmail HTTP mail

Is there a way to get a Sound notification using outlook 2007 and Hotmail.com
email addresses? I have Hotmail Plus, which allows Hotmail to work with
Outlook, but No sound plays when a new message comes in. A sound
notification does play with POP mail servers.

It only works when you have it set as your default delivery location (which
can be undesirable if you have more than 1 account configured).
Windows Live Messenger can give you New Mail notifications as well.

Hotmail is my default mail delivery location. The pop3 works, but not the
HTTP accounts and the pop3 is not the defult. I see no reason to use Windows
Messinger along with Outlook 2007, which is always running. DN

I'm guessing that is impossible as it is a HTTP or basically a direct web
base email account. All of the storage is on the hotmail site. It does not
download the emails. If I delete the account and add it again, it
repopulates as if it was never deleted. I’m sure that I am not the only
person that has a Hotmail Plus or MSN account, so I’m surprised I haven’t
seen the question before. However, maybe the other account holders aren’t
having the same problem. Hence the original question. Thank you for helping
tackle the problem. DN

Sounds like you are not using the Outlook Connector then. When you use that,
you can set it as your default delivery location.

Correct, That program is not necessarey if you have an account with MSN. I
pay not to have to use it and additinally it gives me more storage space for
sending and receiving larger documents.

That remark doesn't make sense. The built-in HTTP connector is using an old
protocol and the Outlook Connector allows you to use the new protocol which
has a lot more features. Paying MSN has nothing to do with this other than
allowing to use the old protocol. You pay for having increased mailbox and
attachments limits, no advertizing in the web interface and POP3 access.

So, you are writing that the Only solution is to use the Outlook connector? I
have tied the connector, but it does not work well as it constanlty asks for
a password?

If you use a Hotmail account in your mail profile, the Outlook Connector is
where you want to be. MSN accounts were late in the migration process so
that may account for your earlier connection issues. All account have been
migrated to the new protocol now and the original plan was to disable the
old protocol at the end of this month. If you still have connection issues
with your account, contact MSN/Live Support.
