I have found a reproducible bug in Outlook 2007 which definitely did not
occur in the 2003 version. I am using Outllook 2007 connected to a local
exchange server in the office, but is simultaneously connected via the
internet to an IMAP message store (the server is hmailserver).
I have dragged the Inbox folders from both the Exchange and IMAP stores in
to the Favourites area, along with a number of other folders, and I have
configured send/receive to update the IMAP account on a regular basis.
The unread message count on the IMAP inbox appeared to be behaving in a very
odd fashion, only updating itself if I explicitly pressed F9 to do an
immediate send/receive. However, I have now discovered that it behaves
correctly provided that the IMAP account in 'All Mail Items' is expanded to
show all of the folders. This behaviour is different to how it used to work
in Outlook 2003, where it used to correctly update the unread message count.
I have searched the Microsoft site to try and find out how to submit an
error report, but it seems to be either impossible to do so or a well kept
secret. This is very frustrating!
