Outlook and Virus'

Does anyone know for sure if Outlook actually opens an email when using the
"preview pane"? In other words, when I view the email in outlook, without
opening any attachments, can I get a virus? Any help is greatly
appreciated.

Technically, yes, it is possible to get a virus from just
previewing an email message in Outlook. But if you keep current
on updates for Internet Explorer and your antivirus program,
you're generally safe. See

Contrary to what G&O stated, it is NOT possible to get a virus by previewing
email and has not been for several versions of Outlook.
