Outlook "clears" out my email address after I input it in contacts

I am preparing a new class on Outlook 2003. As I work through the book, I am
practicing the exercises. I am using my own email address for all emails. As
I am entering the email address in Contacts, Outlook will delete it as soon
as I hit enter or tab. I have been able to do this previously but all of a
sudden it won't let me use the address. Any thoughts?
