Outlook Contacts is not indexing the "notes" field.

I am using office 2007 and Vista.
The search function does not search the notes section. Is there a fix to this?

I have found some other threads that don't seem to come up with a solution.

I have already re-indexed and did an outlook repair. Neither produced any
results.

Any held would be appreciated.

I thought he said he did. Instant Search has worked fine for me on the Notes
field in current builds, but it didn't in earlier ones. When IS has failed,
Advanced Find has still worked.

Hi Russ,
Thanks for the response, but I am way past "advanced find". The notes
section does not appear to be index and no results are being displayed.

Yes, I did rebuild the index. Still no results.

Please clarify your statement. Advanced Find does not use the Index and
works fine even when IS does not. I've never seen anyone able to reproduce
your claim.

Hi Russ,
Advanced find does work, but is not searching the notes section. I am unable
to find anything within the notes section. I have rebuilt the index and also
did a repair.

For some reason, I think the notes section is not being indexed. Is there a
way to force it to be indexed?

Any suggestions......

Hi Russ,
My contacts were migrated from an earlier version of Outlook. (2003) How do
I tell how old my versiion of outlook is?

Would it be helpful if I exported the contacts out to an excel file, pst or
something similar and then re-import them?

Again, let's not confuse Advanced Find with indexing and Instant Search.
For me, Advanced Find has always worked, even in the Notes field. I cannot
reproduce an instance where it does not. The only possibility that comes to
mind here is that your Contacts may have been created in an earlier version
of Outlook and migrated incorrectly. That, in theory, might prevent the
field from being searched, but that is just a WAG.
I have encountered a problem where Instant Search fails to find information
in the Notes field, especially in the beta and early builds of Outlook 2007.
However, for me and most others, current versions work when the index has
been rebuilt.

That is the version that I have. Any other suggestions?

Russ Valentine said:
Help About tells you your version. 12.0.6316.5000 is current.
Exporting and importing will likely do nothing to your Notes field.

You cannot use Advanced Find for a mail merge, nor do you need to.
Just use the "By Category" view of your Contacts and perform the merge to
the selected category.
