Outlook converting rtf files to file.bin when attaching to email message

Hi

I am on windows 98 and using outlook 2000. Whenever I attach an rtf file or word file to a message, outlook sends it as a file.bin attachment and no one I send it to can open the attachments. Has anyone ever had this happen and if so, how do you fix it

is outlook converting it or is your mail server? Are you sending the
attachments on plain text message and does it only happen to word docs?
