Hi,
All of a sudden this error msg started popping up for me
when trying to send messages in Outlook 2000 via
smtp.mail.yaho.com. I have turned off Norton Antivirus,
the firewall, and the Windows automatic update. Can
anyone help me? Many thanks in advance.

Outlook is unable to connect to the email server. Start
with diagnosing the physical connection. From the run
command type cmd, then type ipconfig /all, insure you have
a connection out to the default gateway and the dns server.
Then reference the following articles:

Also, in the other article the search brought up, it was
for exchange, which I do not ahve, but I did the netstat-
an and the ones tehy tell me should show up do not,
should they show up although I have just Outlook 2000?
Thanks again.

Since/if you can verify your physical connection by
pinging the web server or dns server using ping -n 1 'dns
IP address' as shown in the results from the ipconfig /all
command, then the problem may be caused by filter by the
firewall or trapping by the anti-viral software.
Although they both can be disabled, that doesn't keep
their residue control from working. I've had to totally
uninstall McAfee VirusScan to contact my email/web
server. I've also checked to verify my McAfee Firewall
was not blocking the email server IP address or ports 110
(POP3) or 25 (SMTP).
