Outlook error on opening

P

Pat W

I'm receiving the following msg when I open Outlook: 'C:\Documents&Settings|Application data\microsoft\addins\C:\progra~1\micros~2\office11\addins\outbak.dll" is not a valid Office Add-in.
I can then click on OK and Outlook will open. I have attempted to locate this file to remove it, but search comes up empty. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Did you have the Outlook Personal Folders Backup utility installed at one
time? If yes, just go to Tools->Options-.Other->Advanced and under Add-in
Manager, uncheck this from the addins list.

Thank you for your reply. When I did as you instructed the "Add in" wasn't listed under Add-in Manager. However, I then clicked on "COM Add-In" and the same message appeared and again I clicked OK and it disappeared. Nothing was listed under the "COM Add In" for me to delete/remove, tho.

Then you might want to close Outlook and find (if using 2000 or XP Windows,
enable searching hidden/system folders) extend.dat and rename it to .old.

Again, I want to thank you - I did as you said and found the extend.dat file and renamed it to .old. Then I closed and rebooted - upon opening Outlook - same message came up. Sorry it didn't work - any other suggestions? Should I go back and change extend.old back to .dat?

Well, it can't hurt. First, try a new mail profile here: Control
Panel->Mail Icon->Show Profiles->New. Do not copy the old profile.

Hi, I did the new profile - with no change in the opening message. Everything else seems to be working fine - just this pre opening message. Thanks for the help. Pat W

Hey Pat,

I ran into a similar problem a couple days back and I was able to fix the
problem from the registry...Start,run and type in regedit...HKEY_CURRENT_USER
and find the path to outlook delete the add-in and this will get rid of the
error when you open Outlook
