Outlook Express shows 5 new messages ...only 4 in inbox

When I open Outlook Express 6, I read that mail is being received...then I
read there are 5 new messages (for example), but only 4 are in the inbox.
When I check my Verizon mail site, I see all 5 messages. What's the problem
with Outlook Express? I prefer using Outlook Express and have been
frustrated in my attempts to remedy the problem. Any suggestions will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups). The links under the newsgroup
references are for use with MS's web newsreader (not exactly the best way to
post but it works for some people)
