Outlook file size is larger than shown

Nate Harel

Hi all,

I have Outlook 2002. I noticed the file size was large (over 1GB) so I
archived lots of the emails. I then checked the "folder size" of the Outlook
Today folder and it showed the total size was down to 138MB. However, when I
look at the actual file size with Explorer, it is still over 1GB. ???

How can this be?

Because Outlook doesn't reduce the actual file size. It just reuses the
white space like ms access or other database apps. You will need to compact
the pst to reclaim the drive space. Right click on personal folders and
select properties | advanced | compact now.
