Outlook link opens browser, but page cannot be displayed.

Hi,
When I click an url in Outlook, it opens IE fine. But it shows "The
page cannot be displayed". More curious: if I have a working
browserwindow open, and click the link, it works fine. This makes me
think that I'm dealing with multiple instances of IE on my machine.

Details:
IE 6.0.2900.2180
Outlook 2003 11.5608.5606
Windows XP 2002 SP2

Thanks for your help! This problem has been hunting me for months.
