OUTLOOK.PST - GONE!

Mark

I have Outlook 2002 on XP Pro and today when I opened
Outlook, the Inbox icon in the Outlook Bar showed I had 52
messages in my Inbox, but the view to the right showed
nothing. I did a search for Outlook.pst and Otlook.pst1
and both are gone! Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark

..PST files are hidden files in Windows XP., So you have to enable searching
of hidden and system files to find them.

Your problem sounds like a view issue really. Check View, Current View and
make sure you're not set to unread messages.

Thanks for the reply, Patricia. However, the current view
does have "Messages" checked. Also, when i did the search,
there'es an option to search hidden files. I also went
into Tools/Folder Options/View and made sure "Show hidden
files" was checked. I thought maybe the most-recent virus
may have something to do with it? Also, it's just not the
main Inbox, but also all its subfolders show no content
when double-clicked.

If you can open Outlook, you have a PST (unless you're connected to
Exchange). So just do a search on *.pst and see what you find. That's not to
say the PST isn't corrupted, but if you can open Outlook, there is a PST
somewhere on your system.

You can also check the location of the current PST (although it might not be
the right one) by right clicking the top level folder in Outlook's folder
list. Select Properties. Then click the Advanced button. You should see a
path name that points to your PST.
