Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file

J

Jose

This is the sequence of events:

(1) I performed a CHKDSK /F on the hard disk. Everything
seemed fine.

(2) I openned Outlook and, unexpectedly, got the following
message: "Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file."

(3) I found that the size of my Outlook.pst
file is 0 KB. I do not know why this happened but I
suspect that it had to do with the CHKDSK operation.

(4) I ran "scanpst.exe" and got the following
message: "The file cannot be recovered because it is not
large enough to contain any useful data."

What do I do now? I am desperate.

Jose,
Since it doesn't seem like there's anything in the Outlook.pst file, and it
seems corrupted, you probably just need to delete it. When you restart
Outlook, it will create a new one. For backup, I've always downloaded and
used the Outlook backup utility that Microsoft has on their Office web site.
It is a big life saver if anything ever happens to your primary Outlook.pst.
