Outlook Sending Multiple Copies

I've been having a problem with Outlook 2003 whenever I
try to send a message with a large file attached. Even
though the message is still apparently sitting in my
outbox trying to be sent, in fact the message has been
sent several times. Today I send a message, with a 2.5
MB Word document attached, to a distribution list
(including myslef) and walked away from the computer for
an hour. When I returned, I found that I had received 3
copies of the message. Another recipient told me he had
receieved 13 copies. However, the message was still in
my outbox, and appeared not to have been sent at all.
I am running McAfee VirusScan 8.0 (build 8.0.41) and that
software did not detect a virus or worm. However, when I
am sending this type of message, it does pop up with a
warning that "the last several messages...". Any idea
what is going on?

I get the same when running AVG anti virus 6.
I also have K9 anti spam software, Outpost firewall and yahoo pops.

I haven't been able to narrow down the problem either? Any suggestions
anyone ?

Disable outgoing mail scanning.

Well I guess that's a temporary fix. Anyone know if
Microsoft has plans to fix this? From other posts on
this thread it sounds like it's not just McAfee virus
scanning software that's having the problem.

Outgoing scanning is unneccesary if you have your system set to scan
attachments when opening. It is one of the more deplorable sales tactics of
AV companies who broadcast that they can scan email attachments within the
email program, when Windows automatically will scan attachments when opened
using the AV scanner.
