Outlook should recognize when anyone flags emails in IMAP folders

When anyone flags a message in a shared IMAP folder, outlook should recognize
that flag and thus flag it for you also. Older versions of outlook used to do
that, so that if ANYONE flaged a message it was flaged for you also. Right
now when someone else flags a message it shows up as a red flag WITHOUT a
colored background. But when I flag the message it shows up as a red flag
WITH a red background to me, but a red flag WITHOUT a colored background to
everyone else.

What version and previous versions of Outlook are you refering to? Colored
flags are an Outlook feature and not an IMAP feature and therefor can't
replicate that to the server (and from there to the other clients). Instead
it will only take on the flag property.

The flag color is not even the issue. What I mean is that when an email is
flagged by someone in a shared IMAP folder it should be fully flagged for
everyone. Now in Outlook 2003 it seems there are 2 flag types; a flag for
when someone else flags an email, and a flag for when I flag an email. I
belive that when we were previously using Outlook 2000 that a flagged item
looked the same, no matter who flagged it, which made it alot easier to sort
emails by flag. Now when I sort by flag I have the ones I flagged together,
and the ones flagged by others and the ones unflagged togetther, as opposed
to any flagged message seperated from unflagged messages (Outlook 2003 treats
messaged that I have not personally flagged as unflagged).

Yes, Outlook 2003 introduced the colored flags which could be quite
confusing with normal flags and categories. This has been restyled in
Outlook 2007 with an enhanced and more straightforward flagging system and
colored categories.

In Outlook 2003 you can change the Flag Status column back to the Follow Up
Flag columns (or add it) through View-> Arrange By-> Customize Current
View...
