Outlook stopped saving copies of sent items

I have had this problem before, but the problem went
away. Now it has returned.

Despite the fact that I have my email options set to "save
copies of messages in Sent Items folder," the program has
quit saving outgoing emails.

When this first happened, I checked these messages boards
and there were two other people reporting the same
problem. An observer suggested that it sounded like a
virus, but no-one offered solutions. Likewise, no-one
offered solutions to my post.

Further, Microsoft tech support offered no solutions other
than "re-install the software." This is, sadly,
impossible for me because the OEM from whom I bought this
machine failed to provide cds of installed software. And
of course, Microsoft does nothing to protect me from
dishonest OEMs, nor were they willing to offer any
assistance in obtaining a new backup cd so that I might
reinstall the software.

I depend upon this feature to recall details of prior
correspondence. losing this "sent items" capability is
very frustrating and I would be deeply grateful to any who
might help.

1) Has anyone else heard of this strange problem of
disappearing "sent items" ?

2) Does anyone know of a way to reinstall software lacking
a cd?
