Overallocation on 8 hour days

I've been having a problem where certain resource appear to be
overallocated on days for which they are scheduled for the full amount
of their working hours. I've checked their work schedule setup from the
resources screen and even though they have 8 working hours in a day if
they're assigned more than, let's just say 6 hours, they appear as
overallocated on the Resource Graph.

The problem "appears" sporadically so I'm not sure what could be
causing it.

What should I be checking to fix this problem?

Did you set your Max Units (View> Resource Sheet) to the correct number and
correct calendar?

johnvmc,
Just so the bases are covered, what version of Project are you using and
do you have the latest updates installed? I don't keep track of all the
fixes that are addressed with each update but it may be possible that
this was an issue that was fixed.

Assuming it is not as simple as that, what does it tell you when you
look at one of the Usage views (i.e. Resource or Task)? That is, if Work
is displayed in the timescaled data, does it look OK on a daily basis?
Does this sporadic overallocation appear only on the Resource Graph or
does it also show on a resource view (e.g. Resource Sheet, Resource
Usage)? Does this occur will all your files or only one file?

You need to look at the task's specific times. If they work an 8-hour day
and are only booked for 2 1-hour tasks they could still be overallocated if
those two tasks happen to be occuring during the same hours of the day.
Overallocation is an instantaneous thing, not cumulative and if tasks
overlap for even one minute they can create an overallocation.

That was it! Although I had the correct number of daily hours I had an
overallocation on one of the 1-hour long time slots. Thanks a ton for
the help!
