Does anyone know if I can overlay a text message or an
image over an avi file while it is playing in the
background in presentation mode of powerpoint? If it can
be done, how does one accomplist this effect? Please

No, videos always play on top. You'll need to place your text box to the side
or above or below the video. The other, more complex, solution would be to edit
the video in a video editor and incorporate the text in the video.
