overriding wordwrap

I need to keep characters together so that wordwrap doesn't split them onto two lines. How can I do this?

Insert | Symbol, Special Characters tab will let you insert a non-breaking
space or non-breaking hyphen, which will keep characters together as though
they were part of one word. The same dialog should also give you the
shortcut keys for these characters.

And those shortcut keys (Windows) are:

Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar for a nonbreaking space
Ctrl+Shift+Hyphen for a nonbreaking hyphen

Presumably Mac users substitute Command for Ctrl?

On my Mac, the nonbreaking hyphen is cmd-shift-hyphen, yes, but the
nonbreaking space is still ctrl-shift-space. Go figure...

But I tend not to give shortcut keys anyhow, b/c I always redefine mine, and
am likely to confuse myself, never mind someone else.

If you want to prevent hyphenation in some text, select it, and check "Tools
Language > Set language > Do not check spelling and grammar".
