Overtime Hours in Project 2007

HT

I would like to assign overtime hours to a resource. Currently this resource
is assigned .5 day (4 hours) to a task. This task's duration is .5 day (4
hours). However, what I really want to do is to assign the entire 4 hours of
this resource assignment to be billed as overtime.

In the Task Form, I have disabled Effort Driven and also set the task type
to fixed duration. I clicked OK after doing so. Yet, when I continue on and
put 4 hours in the Ovt work field of the Task Form, as soon as I click OK the
duration reduces to 0.

If I have stated that I want the duration to remain fixed, why does it then
change? How else can I designate overtime hours for this resource?

Hi
Overtime work is not accounted for in the normal duration. Original 4 hrs
duration will be retained only if you do not assign a resource at all or now
in the present situation assign another resource which works in the normal
time.

I hope it helps.

Hello HT,

To expand a bit on Vanita's good answer. It sounds as though you
are attempting to make the .5 day duration tasks be "billed" at
overtime.

Project is not designed as a billing tool and as you noted, you
cannot have an entire task be set at overtime or the duration will
drop to zero. If you'd like to reflect a different cost rate on the
entire task, try setting the different rate in the cost rate table
for the resource. (Double click on the resource and complete the
information in rate tab "B" for example.) The in either the task
usage or resource usage view, add the Cost table field and assign
table "B" to the task.

If you'd like to schedule the task to occur after hours regular
working hours for the resource, create a task calendar and assign
it to the task, enabling the option, "scheduling ignores resource
calendar:.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
