Overwriting the published version

T

tim shelley

Hi all,

In the MS Project help, it is stated that:

"If you want to continue using a version as the current
project, you must save it with the name of the current
project (project.published). Before overwriting the
current project with a version of a project, you may first
want to create an archived version of the current
project. "

This seems to indicate that it is possible to overwrite
the published project with another version, e.g. saving
the Test Version as the Published version.

Trying to do this only results in message telling you that
you cannot overwrite a published version. Is the text in
the help file incorrect or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Tim.

Gary and Tim,

Gary - thanks for elaborating on this issue, I have had
the same experience as Tim.

However when I have used this recovery process, I found
that I lost all of my documents and issues.

If you do not select the sub-web when you delete the
published file, will the recovered file automatically re-
attach to the existing sub-web with its documents and
issues or is there a manual process or do you just have to
start the docs and issues overagain?

Thanks for for insight, Jim

Jim:

I go so fast sometimes, I miss now and then. You're correct, don't delete
the subweb. Instead, after you import the new project and delete the NEW
subweb. Then point the new project at the old subweb. It helps to make a
note of the subweb/project number.
