Page Layout question revised

A

AustinPAWS

Note: I want to clarify that my earlier question relative to viewing
individual page layouts refers to web publications (not print publications).
I create a short newsletter--3 or 4 pages--and send it via email. Since the
web publications' page setup is one continuous page, I can't view where the
page breaks will fall unless I go into Print Preview. I want to make sure
that the pages break correctly during printing should some recipients wish to
print the publication. Thank you.

You cannot send a multi-page newsletter e-mail. It's a one page only deal.
You *could* send it as an attachment (preferably .pdf).

Thank you for responding, Joann--I just wanted to let you know that although
the documentation says you can only send one page, multiple 8 1/2 x 11 pages
actually get transmitted (I do this every week). When I'm working on the
screen, however, I can't see where the pages will break until I go into
print preview. I'm trying to avoid having to do that--I would rather just
see what the printer sees while I'm working on the layout (also, I convert
the file to PDF thanks to this discussion group who told me about Primo!--the
attachment is viewed as individual pages as well). I was hoping that there
was a way to VIEW the 8 1/2 x 11 work area as I working on it so that I
didn't have to click on Print Preview and keep going back and forth that way.
Thanks,

Okay - now I'm curious. Would you send me a multipage newsletter via email?
The word is you can't but you are the second person in two weeks who says
they've done it. I'm not from Missouri but..."Show me"!

J

JoAnn Paules [MSFT MVP]

But then it is still a one page newsletter. It just happens to be as long as
three pages. Not the same thing.

Don Schmidt said:
JoAnn,

Make your publisher page 8½"x44". (the length of three 8½"x11" sheets)

Create newsletter page one, then page two below that and finally page
three all as one long publication.

Austin wants to have a way that the printer will print the area of page
one, then page two and finally page three.

BUT the header of the e-mail will throw everything off, moving everything
down and thus printed page one contains the header and part of publisher
page one, page two prints out the bottom of page one and part of page two
etc.

If the page alignment obstacle is overcome, then there may be a MB barrier
to overcome.

Austin, most folks like pdf and overcomes all this trouble. That way they
can print it, forward it and the pdf gives it a bit of security where the
receiver is unable to alter it.

If you really want to have the NL displayed in the body of the e-mail you
could convert each page to a gif image and the receiver could print out
each gif.

Many of the recipients like to print the newsletter and retain it. For this reason, I like to make sure that they will get good clean page breaks when it prints and not have article headings, etc. split where they shouldn't be. This all works very well as I use Print Preview when I'm laying out the newsletter. I was just hoping for a quicker way so that I didn't have to keep going back and forth between the layout screen and print preview. I look forward to your response after you get the newsletter. What you have is a long e-mail message. People are trying to take a
multi-page newsletter and email it. That can't be done. Plus, apparently you
used the web page template, not a newsletter. Different critter (no pun

I'm glad you love animals too. I have 8 former feral cats (outside)--had
them all spayed/neutered/shots, etc. Well, I guess the long and short of it
is that I'm using the product in a way that it's not supposed to be used, but
it's working. I guess I'll have to continue using Print Preview or drawing

If your readers have no problem with the current format, don't change it. If
you've had people squawk, ask them what they would prefer.

As for ferals, the area where I live has a community of feral cats. The
local SPCA collected several about two years ago, spayed/neutered them and
returned them. It hasn't helped. They are so skittish and avoid all human
contact. And they really p*ss my cats off when they spy them from the window
sill.
