page numbering

I have a research paper with a title page and a page of contents. I want the
numbering to begin on page 3 of the document not on the title page nor the
contents. there is a place to start the numbering on page 2 but I need it to
start on page 3. any suggestions? Way too complicated for a simple
procedure...

thank you. that worked better; however, what if I do not want any numbers,
not even the i, ii, iii, etc, on the first 3 pages. What if I want to start
numbering from page 3. Can I do that?

If you follow the instructions in the referenced article, then
you would put a next-page section break between the second and
third pages, and then unlink the section 2 header and footer. If
you don't want page numbers in the first section, then don't put
page numbers in the first section, and put page numbers where you
want them in the second section (which starts with the third page).

Ok.I had trouble unlinking the pages. It did not work but I will keep trying.
