Page numbers won't print?

I have Office 2000 with all the updates.

The page numbers on my Word document are visible on the screen, but when
I print it, they're blocked out by neat little black squares. I've
printed this same large document from two different computers with
exactly the same results. My printers work perfectly on everything else.

How can I correct this problem? Have I somehow ruined the document?

How did you add the page numbers to the document?

I added them from insert/page numbers. It's the only way I know.

I sent the document to my office, where there's a newer version of
Office..I think it's 2003. When I had the document printed there, the
single digit page numbers printed perfectly, but the second digit wasn't
there for higher numbers. Pages 10 through 12 ahow nothing but the ones.
That's better than those little black blocks at home, but its still a
problem.

Other big documents print perfectly from all the computer and printers.
I believe I've done something to this document to cause this, but have
no idea what it could have been.

Make sure the Drawing objects option, which prints graphics, is
selected. On the Word menu, click Preferences, click Print, and then
select the Drawing objects check box.
Switch to page layout view. On the Word menu, click Preferences, click
View, and then clear the Image placeholders, Status bar, Vertical
ruler, Horizontal scroll bar, and Vertical scroll bar check boxes.
Switch to normal view. On the Word menu, click Preferences, and then
click View. In the Style area width box, type 0 (zero).
You may have to restart your computer after all this.
