Can any provide me with some basic code that would allow me to password
protect a folder on my website. Code that would allow multiple users and
passwords. Have been looking for some cgi work but for what I want the free
ones are best but they all come with endorsement clauses.

Can anyone assist. It would be very appreciated.

thanks for the help mate

if you pay for your web space you might be able to protect the folder via
your control panel. contact your web space host and see if it can be done.

Hi Mr thanks for the help mate

Nice name. Know the type of password code I am looking for is to enable a
members only access area with minimum maintenace. So I'm looking for script
that can take data from an on-screen form, poke bits of that information into
relevent code that can assign a user name and password and inform the user
via email and at the same time amend the password log file with the new user
details.

if you are looking for an automated password registration you might have to
pay, i have not found one myself that is free.

who is you web space provider?

ask them if you can password folders on your web space.

usually you can do this within your control panel of your webspace, login to
your control panel via your hosts website.

This is a recurring and often asked question in this newsgroup.
It is asked alot! :)
Do a google search on the topic and you will find plenty of resources.
You should not have to pay anything extra for this......

Best to you........

Hi

I'm not sure if I can password protect certain folders, I think I can I will
check later. Was trying to avoid paying out until number of users increased.
Kind of start as we mean to go on and avoid the hassel of changing a system
later on.

Yes Thanks Tom

I have tried to stay away from downloading stuff of the internet with free
written next to it. It has a tendancy of exploding on you if your hunting
around for someting. With my machine holding websites I can do without
opening any door to the genetically modified bugs, virus and Russian flu.
Firewall are good but there not that good without investing thousands on
hardware.

All the best mate

Hi Mate

The problem is that I was looking for a more professional approach. User
enters details gets sent email with unique user name and password and I SLEEP
AT NIGHT.

Laters.....

I can change permission on my website. What is on your mind my friend. Is
there some simple way to do this. I was thinking of writing a data base with
a few thousand random user names and passwords. But I don't know how to poke
user email details into the data base, flag a user name and password as used
and then check in and out users etc.

Let me know what is on your mind. Bear in mind if you don't get a reply
it's because I'm in the UK. And I gather your somewhere in the PST time zone

i have not found a free program that you can use i only found one that need
payment.

if you do find one that is free then you'll just have to trust it and try it
out.

have you emailed you provider asking if they support such a program, as some
providers do not allow PHP or CGI scripts.
have yuo asked them if there is already a program available on your server?

who is your provider???

www.hotscripts.com

is a reliable source of lots of scripts to accomplish just about anything.
I've never had a virus passed to my machine from them.... but I always still
check.

There is a lot of free code out there that works fine and is a great way to
learn and is just as professional as can be. Don't pass on it because of the
word free. Fortunatly there are a lot of generous souls out there that like
to help others.

You might also want to do a groups search at google for past posts at this
forum on this subject. There have been plenty.

Best to you........
