In a Windows Xe folder how do i restore the functionality that prompts you
for the file password for an Excel 2000 file?

You have to "Password protect" the file in Excel. It's not a "function"
of Windows XP.

Excel file is already password protected. If you open the password protected
file from Windows Xe Folder, Microsoft Excel opens but the file does not.

To clarify, file is already password protected. If you click on Excel file in
Windows Xe, Microsft Excel opens but file does not. This is true for all of
my password protected Excel files.

Perhaps the password Dialog box opened behind Excel? Is Norton Antivirus
Office Plugin enabled and causing issues?

Hi

no unfortunately the dialog box has not opened behind Excel. I turned off
Norton Antivirus and I am still having the same issue. I have also just tried
"Save As" file option and respecified a password. Hoever I still do not get
password prompt when I open the file from the Windows folder.

If you open from inside Excel does it work properly? Perhap a Detect and
Repair would put it right.

Hi
Yes it does work correctly if opened inside Excel.

Have run detect and repair and same issue still exists. Since running it,
have seen error message when trying to open any Excel file from any MS
folder, regardless of whether file is password protected or not.

"Cannot find file C:/Documents and settings/.........my folder/my
filename.xls" and only Excel application opens.
