Password protection question

S

shayna

I have a subsite that I am trying to password protect. I downloaded the
instructions and it looks pretty easy but...step two "Click Tools, point to
Server" is grayed out (point to Server). I ftp my websites...does that make
a difference? I am hoping someone else generates the websites on their hard
drive and then ftp's them (not working in a live environment). Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Shayna,

In order to view you the servers tab, you must open your website Live using
FrontPage, FTP will not work here. It is also not recommended to use FTP on
a server with FP extensions installed, as FTP'ing files that require server
extensions will not work properly.

To open your web Live:

Go to File > Open Web > Enter the web address > enter the user/pass when
prompted.
NOTE: This procedure requires FP Server extensions be installed.

Also your host company may not allow you to set permissions on a folder, so
before proceeding any further you may want to check with your host and verify
server extensions are supported / installed, and they will also allow you to
set permissions to a folder.

You also mention "subsite" so if this is a subweb you are referring to, then
you would need to check with them for instructions on applying unique
permissions to the sub web.

Hi Shayna,

You have to open the web site using FP and even then it may or may not work as the WPP may not allow you to change permissions via
the FP Server Extensions.
