you can do in Microsoft Word.

Nope. Don't think your Word documents are protected, either - the
security is *very* weak.

You can use a password-protected ZIP file of your .pub, or you can
create a PDF (which may or may not be encrypted).

Newer versions of WinZip have more advanced password-protection that is
more secure, but this is generally incompatible with standard ZIP software.

Yes,you can convert word document to pdf file and then the pdf converter
allow you to add password or pdf restriction.sorry,i just know this

Did you miss the fact that the poster asked about Publisher, not Word.

There are a couple of things that can be done but it would help us to know
what the OP wanted to achieve.
