"path not valid error"

Bonsai Bill

It drives me crazy but sometimes I lose hours of work because when I try to
reopen a file in Word XP or from Windows Explorer I see "The doc name or path
is not valid" error.

I tried winword /r command but it didn't help. The problem seems to occur
whenever file is on a flash drive or desktop. Files do include a custom
template with macros.

Any help would be appreciated! I start getting paranoid when this happens
and end up with multiple files and saving often to insure I don't lose my
work.

Thanks in advance.

NEVER use Word directly with any removable media. Always work with your
local HDD and COPY to/from the removable media. Doing so is the number one
way to corrupt files.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your response. I guess I will work with files on Desktop and
transfer. Maybe I have been lucky that it has only happened a few times.
