.pdf documents in webpages for download?

OK, here is what I did:

1. I highlighted my root directory in the edit field of the remote site,
called, "lcnhoa".
2. I then highlighted all three of my important files on the local side
"downloads", index_files" and "index.htm.
3. I put my cursor over the three files and indicated "upload"

All three moved to the remote site and could be seen below Filename.

Nothing else was done, and I still cannot see the test.pdf results when I
click on the first .pdf file in my CC&R page.

Sorry, I followed the same steps I used when I updated my CC&R page telling
the reader that I was sorry but that the .pdf files would not load.

When I look at properties on the HOA website for the first CC&R, I can see
the link correctly: http://www.lcn-hoa.com/downloads/test.pdf

Also, every file or folder on the remote site shown in the edit field, when
clicked, shows all the documents, images, etc for that folder in the window
below "Filename" and all are dated 4/18/10 - today's date.

When I click on HOA - Website Files in the edit field (remote site) all
three files are shown in the window below: downloads, index_files, and
index.htm -- all dated 4/18/10

The downloads folder in the edit field of the remote sight when clicked
shows "test.pdf.pdf" and is dated 4/18/10 -- .pdf is shown twice as an
extension? MAYBE THIS IS THE PROBLEM!!

Below the downloads folder in the edit field of the remote site is the
"index_files," and when clicked, all the images, etc are dated 4/18/10.

Based on your post I would suggest that you have uploaded again to the wrong
folder on your server and the file is named wrong:

You said: "When I click on HOA - Website Files in the edit field (remote
site) all
three files are shown in the window below: downloads, index_files, and
index.htm -- all dated 4/18/10"

Why did you upload to "HOA - Website Files"? That is not your root folder.
We already discussed this many times. It does not even belong on the server.
Upload the downloads folder to the root folder.

You said: "The downloads folder in the edit field of the remote sight when
clicked
shows "test.pdf.pdf" and is dated 4/18/10 -- .pdf is shown twice as an
extension? MAYBE THIS IS THE PROBLEM!!"

Then why didn't you rename or delete that file and do it again? Rename the
test.pdf.pdf file on your local computer, open in to make sure it works, and
then upload the downloads folder again....JUST the downloads folder! There
is no need to upload the index.htm file and the index_files folder each time
you upload the downloads folder.

Thomboy, you understand how to do this so just keep trying until you get it
right.

To add to my first post...

I am positive that you are uploading to the wrong folder given that this
link works:

http://www.lcn-hoa.com/HOA - Website Files/downloads/test.pdf.pdf

The %20 are added to the link because of the spaces in the folder named:
HOA - Website Files.

So rename the test.pdf.pdf file to test.pdf and upload the downloads folder
to the root directory. DO NOT upload the "HOA - Website Files" folder again.
In fact I see no reason for it being on the server...just delete it.

David, I did NOT upload to the "HOA - Website Files" in the edit field of the
remote sight.

"HOA- Website Files" does not appear on the local site at all, nor can I
find it in my local computer? As I said before, I don't know where this HOA
- Website Folder originated.

I will delete "test.pdf.pdf" AND rename it to "test.pdf" on my local
computer, AND open it to make sure it works, and WILL then upload the
"downloads" folder ONLY at FileZilla!

I did upload the three files (downloads, index_files, and index.htm), and
for this I apologize, but I uploaded them to the root folder "lcnhoa," and
NOT to "HOA - Website Files" Folder. After the upload, they were insidee the
"HOA - Website Files" folder which continues to baffle me.

And, yes, I will also delete the "HOA - Website Files" folder in the edit
field of the remote site as well.

I will get it this time!!!!

Thomboy,

Perhaps the "HOA- Website Files" folder was from your old computer? It
doesn't really matter anymore...because I can see that you have succesfully
uploaded the "downloads" folder with the "test.pdf" file to the root folder.
If you click this link or copy and paste it into your browser then you will
see that the pdf file downloads successfully:

http://www.lcn-hoa.com/downloads/test.pdf

Yeah!! doing the happy dance...congrats.

Now, if you go to your CC&Rs and Legal Information page:
http://www.lcn-hoa.com/index_files/Page632.htm and click on the link to
Corporation Bylaws for the Home Owners' Association of La Canada Norte then
you will notice that you wrote the link incorrectly as
http://www.lcn-hoa.com/downlads/test.pdf ...notice how you misspelled
downloads? As a result this link fails. But...the good news is the download
folder is in the root directory as it is supposed to be, so now you can
upload the permanently named pdf files to the downloads folder and redo the
links and republish the Publisher files.

On your local computer name the 4 pdf files that you want to make available
for downloads. Then upload those 4 files to the downloads folder on your
server. Once again just make sure the specific pdf file is selected in the
left side local pane in FileZilla and the downloads folder is highlighted or
selected in the remote pane before you upload. I would suggest that you do
one at a time until you get proficient at all this, and then confirm that
the pdf file was indeed uploaded to the downloads folder.

Once you upload the pdf files to the dowloads folder, then you can rewrite
the links in Publisher using the same format and just changing the file
name:
http://www.lcn-hoa.com/downloads/file1.pdf
http://www.lcn-hoa.com/downloads/file2.pdf
http://www.lcn-hoa.com/downloads/file3.pdf
etc.

Publish new Publisher web files and upload them and you should be good to
go.

Good luck...you are close to the end of the forest...
