What is the difference between "% Complete" and "% Work Complete"? When I
show both columns they have different numbers.

Hi,

%complete=100 * actual duration/duration
%work complete=100 * actual work/work
Suppose a 4 day task, 1 resource @ 100%
Timesheet show 4 hrs of actual work on days 1 and 2
Duration jumps to 5 days
%complete=100*2/5=40%
% work complete=100*8/32=25%

Jonathan,

Are work and effort the same? I think the units used to measure effort are
resources. The units of work are resource*hours. Therefore they can not be
equivalent. Or do I have that wrong?

An example I like - we're painting a room starting Mon at 8am, ending Fri at
5pm. The painter will do 1 hour first thing Mon for a first primer coat
that needs to dry overnight. Same thing Tue for a 2nd primer coat. Wed he
spends an hour doing the 1st colour coat, Thur an hour for the 2nd colour
coat. Fri he's scehduled to work all day doing the finishing and detail
work. Duration is 40 hours, the total available working time between Mon
8am when it starts and Fri 5pm when it's done. Work is 12 man-hours, the
painter's effort consumed doing the task. It's now Thur at 5pm and
everything has gone according to plan. We're at 80% Complete (32hr/40hr)
and 33% Work Complete (4m-hr/12m-hr).
