Permanently Deleted Outlook Folder

OK, I know it's my own fault, but I have gone and
permanently deleted (as in not to the deleted items
folder) a folder full of very valued and treausred emails.

Are they really gone forever?

I am running Outlook 2003 on a Win XP Machine.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks, but unfortunately I had closed Outlook and this
fix is only for if you have left it open.

Not restarted it (not kept open). It is woth a shot anyway unless you've
compacted the file as well.
