Permissions Issue / Enterprise Resource Data

Hi,

We are using Microsoft Project Server 2007 & Microsoft Office Project 2007.

Currently, I am in the process of building proof of concept tests so as to
adopt this product in our enterprise.

I created 4 users and mapped them to their corresponding windows domain
users. Those 4 users were added as "Team Members" in Project server.
I added my self as a "Team Leader" & "Resource Manager". The idea here is
that I want to simulate the task assignment, reporting, then acceptance or
rejection.

Now when I open a plan that contains assignments to these resources I
receive a message at startup: "You do not have permissions to see the data
for all the enterprise resources in this project" and then a list of resource
names appear incuding all defined resources!!

What should I do??

Hi Ben,

I am already a member of the Resource Managers, Team Leaders and Project
Managers groups.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Doh - I hadn't read the message properly.
I'm assuming that when you create a new project and use the Build Team from
Enterprise feature that you don't see this issue, and that it is only the
projects that have been created by someone else.

What you will see will depend upon the RBS - if you have set one up. A
workaround where you can see all resources would be to change the My
Resources category so that "all current and future resources in the Project
Server database" radio button is selected. Note this is then a global
change, and I would recommend that you fully understand the security and
implications of doing this in PS before you make this working practise.

Thanks Ben for the reply.

The hierarchy in my Enterprise is as follows:

There is a master Project Manager who is in fact the department manager. It
is this department manager that creates projects.

Afterwards, the project is followed up by one of the team leaders who is
assigned the responsibility of managing this project and its resources.

Do you recommend that the person who should create this project is infact
the team leader himself. However, in this case we seem to have a security
problem because we don't want team leaders to create projects in a haphazard
manner and we want it to be under full control of the master project manager
(or department manager).

Please advise your recommendation concerning this issue.

Thanks again.

Carry on as you are, but you'll need to change the project owner in PWA to
the team leader, and then he will have the rights to open it in Pro.
However, you cannot have the master project manager having full control as
you have just changed the owner to the team leader! You'll need to trust
people and have a level of controlling process.
